👥They Both Die at the End👥

  • My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

For those of you who don’t know how this story goes, this book displays a world where people are informed of their impending deaths in 24 hours through Death Casts. In this merciless, cruel world where fate is invincible, Mateo and Rufus, who are way too young to be buttoning up their lives, receive unavoidable calls: they will die in 24 hours. Through an app that links strangers, Mateo and Rufus meet to savor their very last day in this world. As they gradually break their barriers and share regrets & sorrows, infrangible bonds grow between them. Will their relationship carry on against the striking fate? Until the second it actually happens, we are as clueless as they themselves are. This is one of those books that make you realize how valuable and vulnerable our lives are. How unexchangeable they are. How we take them for granted when the future is not granted. As a person who is more like Mateo than Rufus — meaning I tend to be risk averse and end up missing out on a lot of fun things by only worrying about the consequences and what people might think of me — reading this was a good reminder that I should probably just go ahead and do whatever I want. We don’t get forever. Life is not guaranteed, yet I somehow always end up prioritizing the wrong things… Anyway, this book was a page-turner and it was easy to read, which I definitely enjoyed. By the way, one question that kept nagging at me is: in this world, do people die because of Death Cast? Or is it just that Death Cast merely acts as a reminder that they will die? Because if it’s the former, then it would be the most malicious thing in the world, but if it’s the latter, I think I like it because in that case, at least death is not so much of a “sudden” event. At least you can say goodbyes to your loved ones, don’t you think? Or it might be worse…🤔
