⚜️ Circe ⚜️

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hmm…I don’t really know what to say about this book. When I was halfway through, I did find some salient parts of the story such as Circe realizing she’s a witch and being exiled to an island exciting and adventurous.

I don’t know what I expected, but the setting of an unusual nymph with the hands of a witch left on an uninhabited island full of mysterious plants and untold secrets… I kinda expected her to do something more than what a stereotypical “nymph” that this book has been drawing out for me would do — that is, those aloof, enigmatic female nymphs preening in front of mirrors and wheedling men to their beds. Honestly, I couldn’t really find what was so different for Circe from these women except that those men were mortals.

I kept waiting for “that” to happen. A pinnacle of events so dynamic and outstanding to make me love this book! But personally I couldn’t find it 😭.. When I was almost done with the book and still didn’t have a single idea of where the story was leading, I just stopped reading it.

It was basically like a short span of Circe’s immortal life cut out to make a book with not much brilliance..! Also, I felt like this book was way too expressive for a plot so monotonous. You know how descriptions of something go on and on that, at one point you just lose focus and you start to wonder, wait what is this about? I’ve experienced this way too often while reading this. If you are expecting a book exploring the mysterious world of Greek mythology sprinkled with sparkles of magic, then this might not satisfy you as much. It’s not a book revolving around a specific type of event, but more like shedding light onto a part of Circe’s life.
